How to build a simple yet very powerful blog site

Want an incredibly powerful, versatile yet oh so simple blog site? What i'm going to provide you with here is a complete toolkit for FREE on how to create that very blog. First things first, you will need a domain and hosting, for this i recommend a visit to One.com. At One.com, you can pick up a generous hosting package and domain name for just £10, They say its free but like everyone else in the market, there is a setup fee (+ you get a free £50 adwords voucher). If you would prefer another host you need one whose hosting package will provide you with a mySQL database and whose server supports php code. Once you have a domain name and hosting package, take a trip to the WordPress site and download a copy of WordPress. While referring to the WordPress installation guide and the last confirmation email you received from One.com containing all your user details, configure the settings for the mySQL database. While it may sound daunting, its not actually.. and takes less than 5 minutes for a complete novice to do. Next, if you dont already have one you will need a FTP uploader. This is to upload the WordPress files to your server. For this i recommend the Filezilla FTP Client. Well your almost up and running.. Lastly before you start filling the internet with your thoughts and idea's, WordPress has a whole galaxy of plugins which for the most part a literally 3 mouse clicks to install. If you install no others, i seriously recommend these two, 'Robots Meta' and 'All in One SEO'. Between these two plugins you will have all the tools you need to do your SEO and verify your blog with Google webmaster tools. Finally once you have got a feel for WordPress, you will no doubt want some better themes/layouts than the ones that come bundled with the software. The good news is there are literally millions to choose from on the internet. Some of the best FREE ones can be found at topwpthemes.com Changing a theme in WordPress has 4 simple steps.
1. Download the theme zip file to your computer
2. Extract the zip file
3. Upload the un-zipped folder
4. log in to WordPress and select your new theme. If you have followed these instructions, you now have: 1. your own domain name
2. 12months Webhosting
3. The best blogging software available (in my humble opinion)
4. access to all the plugins and themes you could ever want.
All for £10! You now have one of the most powerful and versatile blogging platforms at your disposal, how you use it... is up to you. |
