Google Adwords - Worth it? or not?
Google Ad words Is getting involved in Google ad words worth it for a small business? Having tried Google ad words both in the past and more recently with a couple of new websites I have major concerns about how viable it really is for a small business website starting out from scratch in spite of what Google say. The first gripe I have is the constantly changing minimum bid on some more popular keywords. It can and does change several times during the course of the day. A keyword can be active early in the morning then later in day be suspended because you have specified you don’t want to pay in some cases in excess of £2-3 every time someone clicks on your ad to look at your website, then find it becomes active later again as the minimum bid value is dropped again. The second gripe I have is the alleged refunds on ‘click quality’ that Google claim to make. In short they DON’T. On many occasions the web host analyser software has identified IP addresses as visiting several times in a short space of time and with careful monitoring of the ad words costs, must be just hitting the ad time and time again. Google claim in such circumstances they will refund those costs back to your account, this is in practice a very rare event in my experience. So, is it worth it? In my experience NO! Unless your advertising budget can withstand £20-£30 per day just to stand a chance of getting your ad on the first page a few times I would say there are many more cost effective alternatives to Google ad words. It may take some time to do and set up but promoting your website elsewhere and building it to rank better in search results is far cheaper and more cost effective.
